Do you need a formal appraisal?
Q. How long does it take to get an appraisal?
A. The time required to perform an appraisal depends on: (1) the number of items to be included; (2) materials and craftsmanship used in manufacture; (3) condition; (4) provenance [history of ownership]; and (5) the current marketplace [supply and demand].
Q. How much does it cost?
A. Our fee is $100/hour, and your total fee is based on the time required to (1) inspect and photograph the items; (2) research prices of comparable properties; (3) write the appraisal report in accordance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice. The more scarce the property, the longer it takes to perform step (2)
Q. How do I know that you will estimate the actual cost to perform the valuation?
A. Upon seeing all the properties to be valued, we will estimate the number of hours required to complete the appraisal, and write that into the Contract which we then both sign. If you do not add items to the valuation, that number will never increase.

Q. Will the value of my stuff change?
A. Values do fluctuate over time, and it is important to know when they increase – particularly in the event of a casualty loss, for proper reimbursement by your insurance carrier.
